Literacy is access to opportunity.

Jobs. Education. Participation in Canada’s economy.

Behind every number is a person:

  • a child who feels left behind at school,
  • a parent unable to read a note from a teacher,
  • an adult missing out on job opportunities.

What is the issue?

But literacy can be strengthened with the right support.

How we help

United for Literacy delivers FREE programs across Canada, from homework clubs for kids to literacy and skills training for adults and newcomers. We meet learners where they are.

Our impact in 2025

  • 39,531 learners supported across 180 communities
  • 3,150 children in Literacy Camps across 90 Indigenous communities
  • 54 workshops and conferences delivered for families and educators
  • 54,905 books shared with children and families

These outcomes reflect what is possible when learners have consistent, accessible support.

Aashvi joined the United for Literacy Online Reading Circle and had so much fun. She loved the games, and with help from her reading buddy she got better at reading and writing.
