Who are we?
Each day, we transform lives and strengthen communities through literacy.
United for Literacy, formerly known as Frontier College, is a national charitable literacy organization. We believe literacy is a right. We work with volunteers and community partners to give people the skills and confidence they need to reach their potential.
United for Literacy believes in literacy for all people.
That’s why we promote reading, writing, and math for individuals of all ages, as well as more advanced skills like financial literacy and digital literacy. Reading breaks down barriers and opens up the world to ideas and opportunities. Our programs target each learner’s needs, interests, and goals.

How can we help you
Can you read this sentence?
Do you understand every word?
Perhaps you got this far by knowing some words and guessing the rest. This gives you some of the meaning, but you may miss out on important details. It may seem hard to go back to school or ask for help. United for Literacy makes it easier. Whether in-person or online, tutors can work with you to build your reading and comprehension skills.

How can you help us?
Our newsletter is a great way to stay connected. You’ll receive updates on our programs, how we’re advancing our mission to help more Canadians get the support they need, upcoming events, news from the literacy sector, and more.
It’s read by learners, volunteers, educators, tutors, employers, and many others. We send it four times a year. You can unsubscribe at any time, and you are always welcome to reach out with feedback.
I love getting to work with learners and see firsthand how they are gaining confidence. Their personalities shine more and more every week.
