Online Programs

  • Coding 4 Kids (Virtual via Zoom) - Grades 4-6, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
    • Tuesdays starting July 7th to August 4th.
    • Coding 4 Kids introduces learners to the basics of coding through hands-on, interactive lessons using Scratch, a beginner-friendly platform widely used by educators. Learners will design games, animations, and stories while developing problem-solving, creativity, and logical thinking skills. No prior coding experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to learn!
  • Creative Writing (Virtual via Zoom) - Grades 3-6, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. 
    • Thursdays starting July 9th to August 6th.
    • Creative writing encourages learners to explore their imagination through a variety of fun writing activities and prompts. Throughout the program, learners will create unique characters, develop story ideas, experiment with different styles of writing, and share their creativity in a supportive environment. Whether they enjoy telling stories, writing poems, or inventing new worlds, learners will have the opportunity to build confidence in their writing while bringing their ideas to life on the page.

In-Person Programs

  • Reading Buddies (In-Person at the North Bay Public Library) - Grades 1-4, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. 
    • Wednesdays starting July 8th to August 5th.
    • Reading Buddies pairs learners with supportive United for Literacy tutors for guided reading and language-based activities. This program focuses on building reading confidence, fluency, and comprehension in a welcoming and encouraging setting. Through games, storytelling, and one-on-one support, learners strengthen their literacy skills while developing a positive relationship with reading.

Meet Kassandra McLellan
North Bay Intern

Kassandra has been a dedicated member of United for Literacy for four years, providing the North Bay community with a strong and consistent presence through a variety of impactful programs. She leads a team of Program Leaders and volunteer tutors, fostering collaboration through regular meetings and training. Working closely with her team, Kassandra delivers engaging in-person and virtual literacy programs in partnership with local organizations such as the North Bay Public Library. Kassandra plays a key role in program planning, recruitment, and communications, ensuring that learners, guardians, and community partners are well supported.

United for Literacy believes any place can be a learning place. We deliver our programs in schools, community centres, shelters—anywhere we're invited. Our literacy and numeracy programs are all free.
