United for Literacy believes any place can be a learning place.

Our free literacy and numeracy programs include:

  • After School Reading Circles

Designed for students in grades 2-6 who are reading below grade level. The focus is to boost literacy levels in its participants through fun activities and stories. Sessions run for 10 weeks at a time, students are selected in partnership with the school contact and free books are given out during the program.

We are currently partnered with 7 schools in Brandon, Winnipeg and Selkirk, reaching over 150 students from Oct- April.

  • Truth and Reconciliation Programming

Our Indigenous intern works alongside students and staff to deepen their understanding of Indigenous peoples, culture and perspective.

We currently offer programming through Marymound Inc. in Winnipeg for youth ages 15-21 reaching approx. 50 learners per school year.

  • One-to-One Tutoring

One-to-One Tutoring pairs volunteer tutors up with learners to provide guidance and support in a safe space. This tutoring service is open to all ages, at all learning levels, and is offered virtually via zoom. This program is offered year-round and reaches approx. 75 learners per year.

  • Learn Outside the Box

This program is open to learners ages 15+ in Winnipeg with a strong focus on helping learners complete their high school education or prepare for the CAEC exam (former GED).

Through this program we partner with youth social service sites to offer drop in homework clubs and one-to-one tutoring sessions.. We also partner with schools to host various educational based activities such as a gardening club.
