A Fun, Educational Summer for Every Child
United for Literacy works with both Indigenous and urban communities to create summer programs that meet the needs of each region. The goal is to make sure children in every community have the opportunity for a fun and educational summer. This way, they return to school ready to learn and grow.
The results are inspiring! Many kids who start our Summer Literacy Camps saying they don’t like to read end up excited about books and reading by the end of the summer. They even start sharing stories with their younger siblings!
The Impact of Summer Literacy Camps
In the past year, our camp results were incredible:
- 97% of camp participants said they enjoyed the camp
- 98% of caregivers agreed that the camp was valuable for their families and the community.
- 100% of camp counsellors said the camp helped boost campers’ confidence and self-esteem.
These numbers show just how important the camps are for the kids, their families, and the community as a whole. It’s not just about reading – it’s about building confidence and encouraging kids to believe in themselves.
Learning Through Play
Summer Literacy Camps are more than just reading. We make learning fun by turning it into games and activities. Kids also go on field trips, have discussions with community guests, and enjoy time to relax and play. Every activity is designed to help them learn while having fun.
