The opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized General Accountant & Payroll Administrator to jour our Finance Team and reports directly to the Accounting Manager. This role is responsible for a full range of functions for United for Literacy relating to the accounting cycle (month end and year end) and specifically for payroll and accounting activities related to the camp program.
Your main responsibilities and major duties
1) Payroll Functions (60%)
- Payroll administration including all journal entries and reconciliations related to seasonal staff and interns
- Maintenance of employee personnel files
- Develop hiring packages for seasonal staff and support managers in on-boarding new staff to payroll
- Timely execution of payroll processing for seasonal pay periods
2) General Accounting Functions (25%)
- Development and execution of processes related to summer camp finances, such as advance program payments and reconciliation of advances
- Support accounting functions of United for Literacy Books
- Support Accounting Manager and provide back-up as needed
- Banking functions as required to maintain segregation of duties in finance department
3) Customer Service (15%)
- Provide financial and payroll information to staff as required and resolve queries/discrepancies on a timely basis
- Build, manage and sustain professional and courteous external/internal relationships necessary to support organizational goals
- Work with other members of the administrative team to support the mission and the work of frontline staff.
Skills, Attributes and Requirements
- 2+ years accounting/finance experience in not-for-profit sector an asset
- Highly detail oriented and organized in work
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus is critical
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Excellent time management skills with ability to prioritize and multitask
- Ability to interact with all departments and levels within the organization
- Ability to adapt to changing demands
- Experience with SAGE Intacct, Excel and Word an asset
- A willingness and ability to problem solve as well as take initiative

Salary: $55,000 to $60,000
Hours of Work: Full Time
