What: Assist with setting up and taking down reading tents, and help run fun summer activities for children

☀️Summer Reading Tent Program

When: Weekdays, daytime (July and August)

Where: In-person

Do you enjoy working with children ages 5 to 12? We're looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to help:

  1. Set up and take down our outdoor reading tents
  2. Run fun, literacy-themed activities
  3. Distribute free books to kids in the community

We ask volunteers to commit to at least three tents over the summer — but scheduling is very flexible!

📖 1-to-1 Reading Support – Summer Literacy Camps

When: July and August, Mondays to Thursdays, between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Where: In-person – locations include Fredericton, Oromocto, and Wotstak First Nation

We're looking for volunteers to provide individualized reading support to children ages 5 to 12 attending summer literacy camps.

Volunteers are asked to commit at least 45 minutes per week — just a small amount of time can make a big difference in a child’s learning journey!

👥 In-Person & Online Tutoring

When: Ongoing

Where: In-person and online

What: Support learners through in-person tutoring, classroom visits, or online literacy clubs (registration through Thunder Bay online groups)

When: Thursdays, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. (ongoing)

Where: Online

What: Help adult learners strengthen their reading, writing, and comprehension skills for everyday life, employment, or education. You'll work with one learner in a breakout room using provided materials—or bring your own ideas and resources!

What: Support a small group of 1–3 learners as they explore beginner computer skills like using a mouse, writing emails, internet safety, and Microsoft Word. You'll work in breakout rooms with guided videos and activities provided before each class.

💻 Basic Computer Skills

When: Mondays & Wednesdays, 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Dates: May 12 to June 18, 2025

Where: Online

What: Support a small group of 1–3 learners as they explore beginner computer skills like using a mouse, writing emails, internet safety, and Microsoft Word. You'll work in breakout rooms with guided videos and activities provided before each class.

💻 Computer Skills – Level 2

When: Mondays & Wednesdays, 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Dates: June 23 to July 30, 2025

Where: Online

What: Help learners take the next step in their digital journey—creating Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations. You’ll guide 1–3 learners in breakout rooms using pre-planned lessons with video support.

  Saskatoon, SK  

👥 1-to-1 Tutoring – Public Library Program 

When: Weekly sessions, flexible days and times depending on tutor and learner availability

Where: In-person – Public libraries across Saskatoon

What: We’re urgently looking for dedicated volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring support to children and youth ages 6 to 17. Volunteers will meet with their learner once a week at a local public library to help build literacy skills and confidence.

A minimum commitment of 3 months is required — your steady support can make a lasting impact on a young learner’s journey!

  Online opportunity

United for Literacy is currently seeking 10 French-speaking and 10 English-speaking volunteers for the National Online Adult Learning (NOAL) program, a free, online support with literacy and skills including reading, writing, numeracy, document use, oral communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and computer literacy. 

Every volunteer goes through steps to ensure they are equipped with the necessary tools to succeed, and they receive ongoing support throughout their time with the program.Volunteering online is flexible and adaptable. The national reach of the program allowing them to learn about people in different cities.
